Last weekend i spent an unexpectedly long time at the Gasworks Farmers Market – it was unusual because we no longer have a stall there (we traded for EVERY month at St Kilda, instead of very 2nd month at each!)
So I was in fact, just trundling along to get a few things for the kitchen, as well as some really colourful and yummo vegies n stuff for the week.
Last night I made a crumbed chicken with veg, that’s all i felt like – something plain – but I just felt like I was eating health, with all the beautiful coloured vegies on the plate. New season corn – to die for from Jonella, Spring Creek organics heritage carrots of all colours, zuchinnis, and heaps of divine herb action. I used Millawa organic chicken (i bought a whole one as its cheaper), and cut off the breasts, saved the legs and thighs for another meal, and whacked the carcus in water with vegies for a winter soup stock.
Night before last we devoured the Yarra Valley salmon, which has a totally different taste to my usual Tasmanian seawater bred salmon. Fresh water salmon is more as you would expect – trouty in flavour…but still totally yum – AND cheap! 4 meals out of $10 piece!
I ended up buying so much I had to go and sit on the back of Steve the Muesli man’s car, until my husband could come and collect me (which was 3 hours later), so i could get home – lugging a bursting trolley, and three additional really heavy bags of citrus for the kitchen, on the tram was just NOT gonna cut it!
check out where I got it! – how could you NOT buy from this stall!

Hey hey!
What a hilariously wet day it was on saturday at St Kilda Farmers Market! As I was driving there in torrential flooding, I was questioniong my sanity, but was comforted knowing that all the other farmers out there would be weaving their way on soggy roads too, bee-lining for that sodden paddock next to Luna Park.
It bucketed until about 9, so by the time all the normal people had arisen from their doona of loving warmth, it actually seemed all right! -as it had actually stopped raining! So bless their cotton socks, they all rolled down to support us!
and we SOLD OUT! so thank you delightful people. It is so much fun to make you lots of yummies and you are so excited about them that you get out of bed in that weather to buy them.
I hope you all enjoyed your afternoon tea, as you definitely deserved it!
So THIS WEEK:
1/ I will be updating the menu online, and the process of ordering – to make your life easier and you will see some great new goodies!
2/ we have the lovely Lucy at the fabulous Showgrounds Farmers Market on Sunday (http://www.melbourneshowgroundsfarmersmarket.com.au/), so if you usually see us at a saturday market, we dont have one this week, but we will be at Showgrounds. (ps. ignore all the traffic lining up for other events at Showgrounds and just drive straight past to the entrance of Farmers Market!)
